Orton & Spooner Event

A free one-day exhibition takes place at Stretton’s Priory Centre on Saturday, November 19 2022, from 10am to 3pm.

Come along and find out more about Stretton’s connection with George Orton, of the world-renowned fairground ride making duo, Orton and Spooner.

  • See images of some of their ground-breaking rides, wagons and artwork.

  • Learn about the pioneering work they did in engineering, arts and crafts, transport, manufacturing and cinema.
  • Take a selfie with two of the carousel horse sculptures from this summer’s Big Burton Carousel Trail.

After the exhibition, these horses will be making their home in the village permanently. The parish council bid for them at the charity auction in aid of Burton & District Mind, the mental health charity.

Copies of a new book about Orton and Spooner, written by Stretton Parish Councillor Elaine Pritchard, will also be on sale priced £12.99. All profits from the book also go to Burton & District Mind to support local people. Payments on the day will be cash only, but you can also contact Elaine in advance (on 07889 821 348) to arrange to pay by bank transfer and collect your book on November 19th.
